The question left after the café ending
After Hours at Blue Harbor is a Ren'Py visual novel about Hana and the protagonist working together at a café. The original two endings resolved the café's situation and Hana's exam decision. They left less room to say what the time spent together meant for the two people. Finishing the work was not quite enough to finish their story.
We added a shared scene set six weeks after either ending. The blue mug is back in the café. Hana's exam news differs with the ending, but the conversation soon turns to the relationship. She brings it up with the same precision she gives her work, even though this is something a rota or inventory sheet cannot settle.
We asked the player instead of the affection score
The player can propose a date with no work attached or make the café partnership official. Helping Hana does not automatically earn romance as a reward. Building the business together can be a relationship ending in its own right. Neither choice is labelled a higher-ranked ending.
Earlier state still matters. After the player chooses a date, affection changes Hana's first reply. After the partnership choice, café stability changes whether she is ready to write the terms together or wants to start with Saturday close. A lower affection score does not remove the date option. Accumulated values change the reply that follows the player's decision.
A short scene changed the order of the ending
The implementation stores the café outcome separately from the relationship choice. Ending A and Ending B call the same epilogue, and the ending card appears after the player defines the relationship. Keeping one shared scene also reduces the need to update two copies whenever its dialogue or choices change.
The current source keeps this order. At the end of the epilogue, Hana puts the blue mug between them. An object used earlier in the story returns, but neither character calls it a test this time. The conclusion changes the meaning of something they have already shared instead of adding another character or a long new incident.
What another game can use
Rather than add more state values, we separated the outcome earned through earlier play from the decision left to the player at the end. In a choice-driven Unity story, it is worth deciding which choice should remain open before combining business success and a relationship into one value. Blue Harbor leaves that space for a date or a partnership.
